David Sharpe was promoted to his role in January 2012 after eight years working at Island Records, most recently as Senior Vice-President. In addition to overseeing the operations of Universal UK, he is directly responsible for Universal’s Direct to Consumer and Catalogue together with Universal’s Brand Partnership division Globe and Abbey Road Studios. In addition, he is responsible for the group's finance and royalty functions.
Prior to joining Island in 2003, Sharpe was Finance Director of UMTV and Catalogue, having joined Universal Music in 2001 as Finance and Planning Director. Previously he was head of business support for Virgin Records UK and also spent two years in the mid-Nineties as Director of Marketing Support for Capitol Records in LA. He qualified as a Chartered Accountant with KPMG in Dublin and is a Graduate of Trinity College, Dublin.
