BRITs Apprentice: Leona Lescault – Digital Marketing @ BMG

The BRITs Apprentice Scheme offers ten talented individuals the chance to kick-start their careers in the music industry thanks to this scheme created by the BPI and funded by money raised by the BRIT Awards. In the next part of the series talking to the apprentices, we spoke to Leona about her time at BMG.

What made you apply for this BRITs Apprentice role with?

I was looking for jobs within Digital Marketing and stumbled across the ad for the BRIT’s Apprenticeship, and it looked like something I would be interested in so I thought I would apply, I didn’t think I would get a response back and I did. Then I went through to the interview and I actually got it which has been amazing.

Who else works in your team, and what are their roles?

My team consist of Sam, who is in charge of the digital team in front line, then there is Phil and Tom who are Digital Marketing Managers and Jaidon who is a Digital Channel Coordinator.

What is the first thing you do when you enter the office every morning?

I make a coffee and go through my emails and then I would check what tasks I need to do that day or finish tasks from the day before.

What’s the most exciting project/task you’ve worked on so far?

The most exciting task would be when I had to edit a three minute documentary for Guy Chambers socials as I was able to learn new tips for Premiere Pro and I learnt how to edit content for other social media platforms such as Twitter and Instagram.

What’s the most challenging task you’ve undertaken in your role?

The most challenging task would probably be me learning how to do the charts in the morning as there was so much to learn and remember such as formulas and where to put the data etc.

What’s the most important thing you’ve learned on your apprenticeship so far? And How would you describe the training and support you are receiving from DiVA?

Is always to write down the process of how I did certain tasks for example how to do something in Photoshop as I would forget and would need to ask again. If I need help, I have learned to ask for it as I’m here to learn and improve my skills. Also, communication is so important because things can change so quickly. The training is great I get to learn so much about the music industry and processes, and I’m fortunate enough to have great mentors who share so much knowledge and also te DIVA team who are very supportive.

What advice would you give someone hoping to take part in an apprenticeship?

To be open to learning new things and new opportunities as you will learn so much in your time from being an apprentice.

What’re your next steps once you have completed your apprenticeship?

I would love to stay at my current label growing within a digital marketing role and learning more about the digital world.
