An acoustic evening with Jessie J at KOKO Camden in aid of The BRIT School

2August, 2022
On 27th July, BRIT School alumni Jessie J took to the KOKO Camden stage for an intimate acoustic performance, all in aid of The BRIT School. This support from Jessie is set to raise essential funds to support the charity, in its 30th anniversary year.

The performance was an acoustic set at the iconic KOKO in Camden, and is a pivotal moment in the School’s 30th anniversary year, celebrating the transformational impact of the School on young artists over the past three decades, and raising funds to continue this work for the next generation.

Jessie studied Musical Theatre at The BRIT School, graduating in 2006  and has always given back, to support the next generation of young music makers and artists from all backgrounds who attend this free school.

Earlier this year the school published ‘BRIT Transforms Revue’, a report showing the impact of the School on young artists since it opened its doors in 1991. It showed that 87% agreed or strongly agreed that their family would have struggled to afford a private secondary arts education if they had not come to The BRIT School for free.

The School also launched the ‘BRIT Transforms Campaign’, to raise £10m by Sep 2025 to ensure they can continue to offer the world-class facilities, training and opportunities for free, to support the next generation of young aspiring artists, regardless of their background.

Stuart Worden, Principal said: “The BRIT School is a very special place and it needs to stay that way.  Not many people realise it's free but in order to keep transforming the lives of young people we need to raise over £1700 per student per year. We thank and celebrate all our former students for their support and we are thrilled that Jessie has performed in our 30th anniversary year.”

Dan Clark – Alumni Relations Manager and former student said, “I am lucky enough to now work here and have done for over 20 years. I have seen the school transform the lives of so many young people. I work closely with former students on how they can give back to this wonderful place. One of those former students is the amazing Jessie J. Jessie graduated in 2006 after studying the same course as me- Musical Theatre.  Since then Jessie has returned to the school on a number of occasions to work with current students and to help prepare them for the professional world.”

Thanks to Jessie’s team and to KOKO for helping to make this show happen, helping to raise funds to support The BRIT School as part of the #BRITTransforms Campaign.
